While you’re away at college, you should definitely take advantage of all the cultural opportunities that surround you. Back home, you had probably seen the museum and maybe your parents dragged you to a play. But, now is your chance to get out and see these things for yourself, and choose the ones that are most interesting to you. You don’t have to go far to get a dose of culture. In fact, college campuses are one of the best places to look for some fun things to do.
Campus Museums
First, check out the museums on campus. Many schools have art museums, science museums and even natural history museums. See what is on your campus, and make a trip to check it out. Some museums have rotating exhibits, so you can check back often for something new every few months. Also, if your school has a program for students to learn how to become an artist, check the art building for student art shows. This is a great place to see fresh, new talent.
Campus Plays and Concerts
Most major colleges have drama and music programs. As part of these programs, students perform in plays and concerts that are often open to the student body and the public. Check your drama department for a schedule of upcoming events and grab some tickets. One plus to seeing plays on college campuses is that the tickets are often cheaper and sometimes you get to see original script productions.
The Multi-Cultural Club
You don’t necessarily have to join your college’s multi-cultural club to take advantage of what it has to offer. Joining it is a great experience, but if you don’t have the time to participate on a regular basis, see if the club hosts events you can attend. Many times these clubs host dances, cook offs and cultural presentations. These events are great because you get to experience something new, and possibly from across the globe, without even stepping foot off campus.
College is an awesome opportunity to have some cultural experiences. Most campuses have events and opportunities built into the academic schedule, so find a calendar and have fun!
